$Teacher of teen boys give madly rhetoric, drenched with patriotism speech - they madly bresak out in song snad tramp out of the school house - lew ayers begrudgingly looking on in concern. jingosim - send them off to war - break out in song - professor is scary to witness - call to war is terrofying in its intensity and fervor.
They're in school at eachers insistence they throw schoolbook away - they're stoping learnign and goind to kill - all their books on the floor as they rtamp over them out the door - siging at top of their voices - professor wide-eyed and crazy-haired as he gives speech.
himmelstodd - their postman - hih-ranioing superior officer- at first disrespect - quickly discpilines them to gain their respect or fear.
was theis one of the earliest uses of tracking camera - tracking them rinning across no mans' land - while bomb s explode all round them.
the trnech scene - where lew ayres stabs a frenchman - spends two days nad nights with the dying adn then dead body - case study of human nautre - at start - fight or flight - thours later - remorseful -triyng to comfor thim - hours later -shouting agner - "dont lok at me like that you're going to die eanya y- hrs later - trie to give him drink at botom of trench stagnant water - then frendchiue dies- has to remain with dead body - stargin at him - emotions flying across his face - anger - denial, guilt, "if I could do it again , I wdoulndt do it." asks the dead body forgiveness.
this scene along makes this movie classic. It is not heroic at all
