BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE finds Moore using the Columbine school shootings of April 1999 as a stepping stone to explore why America is so gun-obsessed and violence-prone.





I"m not a gun nut, nor am I an anti-gun nut. You weant a gun - have one, But then EVERYTHINGA has to change. The concept of freedom has to be embraced to kill or be killed.

hE sez the victory with the guy in the wheelchari - getting Kmart to stop selling bullets was what spurred him into ambushing Heston. Not that I agree totally with Heston - he was a great star and did some great overacting in his day in some undoubatedly classic movies, but the man has a few stonebrained ideas now, especially the aspect of him being head of NRA, but it was still weak of Moore to ambush him like that. Marilyn Manson - one of the people upno whom blame is place - has some interesting things to say, to put it all in perspective on "blame" - on the day that columbine happened more bombs were dropped on Kosovo than at any onther time durnigthat war (by Clinton) how come no one says the president is not responsible for violence? The most bombs in that war - on the day of the killing, while Manson is just singing a few songs. and no ona attirbutes any kind of violent influence to him.

comparing gun stats shooting deaths - America 11,000 - evey other major country aust engliand in 60s, Germany Japan 200s, 300s. making point that every country watches the same violent movies, every country has a violent past; they have violent video games alientated youth, - why is america now the most vuilent country by far?

Moore hits it right on the head when he visits the producer of COPS "Why not do a show about the CASUES of crime - rather than chasing down a perp?" exactly what I have been railing about in the disparate - causes ofthe crime are not the shirtless black guys - they are the result of crime.
Moore makes the suggestion to the producer of COPS, "do a show called not COPS but CORPORATE COPS" He does these littlee skits of him knocking on limo windows, , at the New york Stock Exchange writing down names, chasing down a guy in a suit and breifcase - all which he actually would do later in his career with CAPITALISM: A LOVE STORY. "Show a businessman running down the street with his shirt off" he metaphorically did that with CAPTIALISM.


By the time Moore gets around to discussing 9/11, we feel like he's peeled a way enough layers of this conundrum puzzle to see a little of the intricate mesh of threads of how a people with this much fear (americans) shouldn't have this many guns lying around.
