Sepia tone opening scene of BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID finds a blond, good-looking guy winning at a poker table and being accused of cheating by the loser. The loser stands and challenges the blond guy to draw. Another man enters, comic relief, and after imploring the loser to back down, informs the blond guy, "I can't help you, Sundanc."
The loser's face goes ashen, "I didn't know you were the Sundance Kid when I accused you of cheating. If I draw on you, you'll kill me."
Sundance acknowledges, "There's that possibility." The loser lets Sundance (Robert Redford) and Butch Cassidy
(Paul Newman, the comic relief) walk out. Yet he calls at the exiting Sundance, "Hey kid, how good are you? Hey, kid--"
In one swift motion, Sundance swivels around and shoots off the loser's gunbelt, then shoots the loser's gun across the floor time and again.
That's when we realize: this ain't a Western - it's a superhero movie.

As they ride away, their personalities are established - butch is the brains, Sundance is the muscle, in those days when muscles meant the fastest gun.
the hole in the Wall Gang - we imagein we're going to see just antoehr western - john wayne was at the end of his run - Eastwood had only made the DOLLAR films had not ye become the legend he would grow into, so this was a new type of western.
butch gets to prove himself with Logan (Ted Cassidy) besting him with cunning rather than muscle.
