- the first thing he shows Quigley's Santa is how to whip reindeer. Remarkable! Back in those days, Santa was an expert at whipping his reindeer - because it was "back in those days," when cruelty against animals was politically correct; when the thought of being kind to cloven-hoofed animals just didn't register in the brain cells

this was back in the day when white people could stil have black slaves--I mean, "servants"--without being frowned upon, but rather revered for being so well to-do.

his name's Mr Gayley - and the way he walks around his house with that Brylcreemed hair and Constant Suit, the name maketh the man.

The film won Academy Awards for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Edmund Gwenn), Best Writing, Original Story (Valentine Davies) and Best Writing, Screenplay. It was also nominated for Best Picture, losing to GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT.

when he tels the lady that that toy is available at another department store, my question is: Now is HE going to buy it to put under the tree, or is he expecting HER to go buy it? Isn't SANTA CLAUS meant to bring all these toys? I thought if SAnta was real that HE is the one who buys the toys - or do the parents but the toys and hand them off to him to actualyl put under the tree, like a waitress? In the4 end, the waitress gets the credit and the tip from the customer rather than the person who actualyl cooked the food. Is that what santa is - just a waitress?
