Szpilman's Liszt. rough notes

In the grand tradition of SCHINDLER'S LIST,
Whatever nationality/religion Adrein Brody is, that nose of his is strictly Jewish. Adrien Brody won the Academy Award ofr Best Actor YEAR. His nose won at Cannes.

AT one point he hides out in the lion's den - across road from Police - with a piano in the room - which he cannot play, becasue he has to remain silent , like the apartment is empty.

hiding with Jewish underground hidinhin solitay, going into towns already bombed, somteimds in heart of GErman occupoation - chance circmstances kept him allive.

when thomas is so kind to him it's hear resnding - any time we see a human recognize the beauty in another humn - (and I dont mean lust like in a stupid white amiercan romantic comedy)

Thomas Kretchman - who spares the pianist's life - coincidentally looks like Liam Neeson in certain shots. small role but so touching heart-rending - he's in the camp - "do yo know Szpilman i helped him when he was in hiding"Tell him im here - ask him to help me.

this is why he won that award - small things like this: lapses into it so naturally, measure of brody's acting : when he speaks to any GErmans he imediately and nturally adopts a cowed manner - we are taken aback when we see him bow murmur with head bowed - he is, after all the star of the movie, but he does it so well, we have to remind ourselves that is how good an acvtor he is - he is actually adopting the manner of all Jews towards occup[ying germans.

the one thing that gives us pause as to film's authenticity is - ironically - the sound of the piano in the Holocaust-torn Polish bombed-out house. It is beautiful, magnificent, in perfect tune and conditioning, not one key sticking, not one string slightly out of tune, its feel and touch is perfect; Im holocaust Poland. I've played pianos in modern music studios that are in worse condition than this instrument in holocaust Poland. CHECK TO SEE IF THEREISNT MITIGATING CONDITION AS TO WHY PIANO IS SO PERFECT.

we see OTHER jews fighting back - so that side of the strugglel isrepresented whereas in ther movies, the kews are downtrodden - just one state dowotreddden .
but HE doesn't fight back except passively, but throwing guns over the wall.

he is no hero - he even says to chick "what is the use?" of ifgiht gin back - which ithink is the reason why he missed out on some fine blond tail that night.
