Should any movie be allowed to be this diabolically entertaining?
If
RESERVOIR DOGS gave us a taste of Tarantino's stageplay staging and shotgun vignettes, if TRUE ROMANCE gave us an indication of his gunmetal dialog and rocket-fueled storylines, PULP FICTION is where it all comes together in an explosive mix of thuggery and honey-dripping dialog.
from the acting, writing, dialog, soundtrack, staging, lighting, there is
a work of true art, pulp art, life as fiction,
It's affect on pop culture is indescribable. PULP FICTION did not create, but popularized:
the adrenalien shot
"gettin' medieval on yo ass"
the gimp
the cleaner
non-chronological story
tasty monologs
and John Travolta.
Scene in the car Willis and Maria Lobos. Such an artful director - bg is a rear projection in b/w, of a street moving away, like an old Audrey Hepburn movie, while the fg is in color.
Tarantino is so brave in actually going through with the Eeny Meeny Miny Moe poem, -- as we've all forgotten, the second line of that poem is "catch a nigger by the toe" but no one EVER says it past the first line in movies any more!
"Let me tell you 'What now?' I'm-a call a coupla hard, pipe-hittin' niggers to go to work on the homes here with a pair of pliers and a blow-torch. You hear me talkin' hillbilly boy! I ain't through with you by a damn sight! I'm gonna get medievel on yo ass!"
Tarantino's characters nver seem to be adhering to that script rule of all the dialog moving the plot forward - there is so much extraneous syrup goodness - it's not like we even have to strain to hear the plotlines shine through, because it's ALL tasty in the mouth like honey.
