The first time I saw RESERVOR DOGS with my roommate on VHS video, as soon as it ended, we rewound it to the beginning and watched it again. Then we rewound it and watched it again.

Quentin Taratino's debut directorial feature film is a smash to the face, a blow to the brain and a kick in the nuts. While speeding in a stolen car.

Peckinpah redux

ends with classic John Woo standoff - Tarantino has made it his own. The way they ARRIVE at that convoluted stage is the interesting part - the inevitability of how this seems so right is its beauty.

I am privileged to say that I witnessed this new era of filmmaking, brought about by this pioneer Tarantino. Sure there were precursors to this style - RASHOMON, CITZEN KANE, The Beatles, any movie that jumps around chronologically and is still crystal clear to understand the throughline of the story, but none with such impact, gusto, verve, with such leering glee.
