The heart of ROCKY II is in a scene between Rocky and Mickey. He wants another jab at the championship, but he has lost sight in his right eye. All those fighters and players and people who rely on thier physical youth to do what they do and gradually feel their vitality slipping away will relate to this scene: Mickey shows Rocky exactly how debilitated he is. Rocky feels fit, he feels his vision will be adequate to take on Creed, but Mickey holds a finger up in front of Rocky's face and blindsides him with a slap from the other hand. It echoes one of the Three Stooges' classic gags, but as Mickey tells him, "If a broken down puig like me can get past yer defenses, imagine what the champ's gonna do to ya!"
emotional scene - doesnt slap him out of spite, but to show him "you got the heart but you ain't got the tools no more"
takes the skap sadly - so sad - somethng that all of us - that we love to do, that we cant live without doing has been taken away from him us - heartbreaking. It's gonna happen to all of us one day - every single one. That scene captures humanity.
He turns from a southpaw into a right-handed boxer.
reduced to emptying spit buckets at gym - Mickey feels it - doesn't like seeing his star doing that - rocky is oblivious - Rocky feels the sting when the guy starrs taking piss out of him - Promoter - guy from GODFATHER Don cicci - "tony" here.
Rocky's roots as an enforcer
Tiresome segment when Adrian goes into a coma when she has kid - – when he reads to her
When Adrian goes into a coma, she lies in a hospital disturbingly devoid of intravenous tubes, heart monitors and machines that go ping. The method used to sustain her life and keep her healthy until her regaining consciousness was – to wait around.
Guess they didn’t have that kind of technology in 1979.
Context: FIRST BLOOD was still three years away, so everyone only knew Stallone as Rocky at this time - this was cementing him as Rocky, Even ROCKY III would be released before FRIST BLOOD, that series that would cement him as Johnny Rambo.
amazing to look back and just ponder.
he asks a preist to bless him in the fight - isn't that kinda stupid? a prayer that if he gets beat up, it won't be too bad. Now how is the priest meant to phrase that to an unlistening god?
Gladiator music for the boxing match
Mickey tells him he's gotta put Apollo down - "Poimanently!"
